Creating Photo Strips Layout

Legacy Article: This article covers the legacy FMBooth (Windows + iPadOS) software. FMBooth (Windows + iPadOS) has been replaced by FMX. See FMX documentation →

How It Works

Most dye-sub printers cannot print a single strip independently but can handle 4x6 printouts with 2-inch cut capability. To avoid wasting media, printing double strips is preferred rather than printing one photo strip and one blank.

Two methods exist for creating a Photo Strips layout in FMBooth:

  1. Create a 4x6 Photo Layout with a 1200x1800 overlay
  2. Create a 2x6 Photo Layout with a 600x1800 overlay, then enable Duplicate Layout Before Print

This guide demonstrates both approaches for creating photo strips with 3 photos (adjustable as needed).

Printer Setup

To enable the 2-inch cut option on your printer, follow the relevant configuration article, then select the appropriate printer in the Settings tab under Printer.

2x6 Photo Layout with "Duplicate Layout" Feature

This option creates a single-strip final photo file, making it suitable for sharing via Email or MMS.

Workflow Specifications

Set up a standard three-photo workflow to add three photo placeholders to your layout.

Layout Configuration

  • Width: 600 pixels
  • Height: 1800 pixels
  • Photo Size: Adjust based on desired spacing and arrangement

Enabling Duplicate Layout

In the printer settings, activate the Duplicate Layout Before Print option. This automatically duplicates your 2x6 layout before printing, creating a 4x6 output on supported dye-sub printers.

Printer Settings

Configure your printer to use the 2-inch cut setting for optimal results with this layout type.
