Using Area Media on Selection Screens

Updated 4 days ago · 2 min readAdvanced

Area Media is a feature in the FMX Cloud Workflow Builder that lets you assign individual visuals to each clickable area on your selection screen. Instead of one background for the entire screen, each option gets its own image, video, or AI-generated visual — while staying fully clickable and responsive.

How to Access Area Media

  1. Open the FMX Cloud Workflow Builder
  2. Add or open a Selection Screen step
  3. Click on any area within the selection screen
  4. The Area Media panel appears in the right sidebar

What You Can Assign to Each Area

  • Select Media — choose any image or video from your asset library
  • Upload Media — upload client assets directly, without leaving the builder. The file goes to your assets library and sets itself as the area background in one step
  • Generate with AI — create AI-transformed visuals using AI Draw Me or AI Modify. Upload a base photo, type a prompt, and generate a sample image to use as the area background

Three Ways to Use Area Media

1. Show AI Results, Not Just Names

When guests choose an AI style from a selection screen, they often do not know what the result will look like. With Area Media, you can show a real example output in each area. Place an example of "Space Adventure," "Renaissance Portrait," or "Anime" directly on the button so guests understand what they are picking.

2. Client-Branded Screens

Each area can carry a different client asset — logos, product images, campaign visuals. Build a fully branded selection screen without touching any external design tools.

3. Live Preview Testing

Use AI Modify or AI Draw Me inside Area Media to test how a prompt looks on a sample photo — directly inside the Workflow Builder, without running the booth. This replaces the old method of setting up a full session just to preview an AI output.

Tip: Combine Area Media with AI Playground for the fastest prompt testing workflow: use AI Playground to explore and refine prompts, then apply the winners as Area Media visuals in your selection screen.
