Animations in the Workflow Builder
This guide explains what animations are, the types available (Single, Random, Timeless), and how to apply them effectively in your workflows.
What Are Animations?
Animations are visual or motion elements that enhance the user experience. They are used to:
- Make screens more engaging
- Provide feedback during waiting periods
- Reinforce branding or event themes
Animations can appear in:
- Idle / attract screens
- Backgrounds behind steps (Capture Photo, Selection Screen, etc.)
- Preloader moments (AI processing, uploads, transitions)
- In between features
Types of Animations
The system supports three animation modes:
- Single Animation
- Random Animation
- Timeless Animation
Each mode has its own configuration panel when enabled.
Single Animation
A Single Animation displays one specific animation every time the screen appears. It can be either a video file or an image.
Use it when
- You have a fixed branded asset (event logo, sponsor visual)
- You want consistent visuals across sessions
Typical settings
- Select an animation file or preset
- Configure its trigger (time, touch, playback ended, etc.)
Random Animation
Random Animation selects an animation from a predefined list each time the step appears.
Use it when
- You want variety, so the experience feels different each session
- You have multiple branded animations or themed assets
Typical settings
- Add multiple animations to the random set
- Configure whether the random animation appears fully randomly, or evenly spread, but still randomly
Best for
- High-traffic environments
- Rotating event themes
- Unique experience for every guest
Timeless Animation
Timeless Animation is designed to loop indefinitely without a visible start or end — ideal for subtle ambient motion.
Use it when
- The screen may remain visible for long periods
- You need smooth, non-distracting movement
Typical settings
- Choose a timeless/loop-friendly animation
- Configure whether it runs in the foreground (above everything) or in the background (behind everything)
Best for
- Fixed video running throughout the workflow
- Augmented Reality
- Capture Screen or Screen Recording
Where and How to Configure Animations
1. Per Step (screen-level)
You can configure a custom animation for each step.
Steps:
- Select the step on the canvas
- Open the Property Drawer
- Go to Animation / Background Animation
- Choose:
- Mode: Single, Random, Timeless
- Specific animations and their settings
2. Globally (workflow or theme level)
You can define default animations for entire workflows or screen types and override them where needed.
Configuration may include:
- Default Touch to Start animation
- Default backgrounds for Capture or Preview
- Global animation sets for branding consistency
