AI Features Troubleshooting

Updated Yesterday · 8 min read

This guide covers issues you may encounter when using Foto Master's AI features, along with solutions and diagnostic steps. AI issues generally fall into a few categories: connectivity problems, image quality factors, credit and account issues, and feature availability.

If you cannot resolve an issue using this guide, see the section on reporting AI quality issues at the bottom of this page.

Common Issues and Solutions

AI Processing Takes Too Long

Symptoms: AI operations are slow, timing out, or taking significantly longer than the expected processing times listed in the AI Features Overview.

Solutions:

  • Check your internet connection. AI processing happens in the cloud, so a slow or unstable connection directly affects processing time. Run a speed test and ensure you have a stable, high-bandwidth connection.
    • Minimum recommended: 10 Mbps upload/download
    • Preferred: 25+ Mbps for smooth, consistent processing
  • Switch to Speed mode. If you are using Ultra, Elite, or Quality processing modes, switching to Speed mode reduces processing time at the cost of some output detail. This is the fastest way to reduce wait times during a live event.
  • Check cloud server status. Occasionally, high demand on Foto Master Cloud servers can increase processing times. See Checking AI Service Status below.
  • Reduce image resolution. If your camera is capturing extremely high-resolution images (e.g., 50+ megapixels), the upload time and processing time increase. Consider reducing camera resolution for AI-focused workflows.
  • Avoid peak times when testing. If you are testing workflows before an event, try running tests during off-peak hours for faster results.
  • Check your local network. At event venues, shared Wi-Fi networks or bandwidth caps can throttle your connection. Consider using a dedicated mobile hotspot or wired connection.

Tip: Bring a portable Wi-Fi hotspot as a backup to every event. Venue Wi-Fi can be unreliable, and a strong connection is essential for AI features.

AI Results Do Not Look Right

Symptoms: AI-generated images look distorted, unnatural, or do not match expectations. Faces are not rendering correctly, styles do not match the selected option, or output quality is poor.

Solutions:

  • Ensure good lighting. Proper lighting is the single most important factor for AI quality. Use soft, even lighting on subjects' faces. Avoid harsh shadows, backlighting, and mixed color temperatures.
  • Check framing and composition. Most AI features work best with head-and-shoulders or half-body framing. Ensure faces are clearly visible, properly centered, and large enough in the frame.
  • Verify the correct feature and style are selected. Double-check your workflow configuration to confirm the right AI feature, style, and processing mode are active.
  • Try a different processing mode. If results look rough or lack detail, switch from Speed mode to Quality or Ultra mode. Higher-quality modes produce more refined output.
  • Review your prompts (for prompt-based features). For AI Headshots, AI Combine, and AI Style Pop custom prompts, refine your prompt text. Overly vague or contradictory prompts produce unpredictable results.
  • Remove obstructions. Glasses, hats, scarves, face masks, or hair covering the face can all affect AI output quality. Ask guests to remove these items when possible.
  • Clean the camera lens. A smudged or dirty lens produces soft images that the AI struggles with.

Tip: Before every event, take 5-10 test photos under your actual event lighting and run them through each AI feature you plan to use. This is the most reliable way to catch quality issues before guests arrive.

Credits Not Deducting

Symptoms: AI operations appear to complete, but your credit balance is not changing, or credits are not being tracked correctly.

Solutions:

  • Check your plan status. Log in to cloud.fotomaster.com and verify that your subscription is active and in good standing.
  • Clear your browser cache. If checking credits through the Cloud dashboard, cached data may show outdated balances. Clear your browser cache or open the dashboard in a private/incognito window.
  • Refresh the dashboard. Credit balances may take a moment to update after processing. Wait a few seconds and refresh the page.
  • Check for failed operations. Credits are only deducted on successful AI processing. If operations are failing silently, credits will not change. Check your processing history in the Cloud dashboard for any failed operations.
  • Verify your software is connected. Ensure your booth software is properly authenticated with your Foto Master Cloud account. A disconnected session may be using cached results or failing silently.
  • Contact support if the issue persists after checking the above steps. Credit tracking issues may occasionally require a server-side investigation.

AI Feature Not Available

Symptoms: An AI feature does not appear in your workflow editor, is greyed out, or returns an error when selected.

Solutions:

  • Verify your plan includes the feature. Not all AI features are available on every subscription plan. Log in to cloud.fotomaster.com and check which features are included in your current plan.
  • Check your software version. Newer AI features may require a recent version of FMX. Update to the latest version.
  • Verify cloud connection. AI features require an active connection to Foto Master Cloud. Check that your software is connected and authenticated.
  • Check feature availability in your region. Some AI features may have regional availability restrictions.
  • Restart your software. After updating or reconnecting, restart your Foto Master application to ensure all available features are loaded.
  • Check for maintenance windows. Occasionally, specific AI features may be temporarily unavailable during maintenance. See Checking AI Service Status.

Face Not Detected

Symptoms: AI features that require face detection (AI Headshots, AI Face Swap, AI Oldify, AI Face Cutout, AI Draw Me) fail to detect faces or skip subjects in group photos.

Solutions:

  • Ensure the face is visible. The face must be clearly visible in the photo, not obscured by hair, hats, masks, hands, or other objects.
  • Improve lighting on the face. The face needs to be well-lit for detection. Dark shadows across the face, extreme backlighting, or very dim conditions can prevent detection.
  • Face the camera. Extreme profile angles (facing to the side) or tilted heads can reduce detection accuracy. A front-facing or slight three-quarter angle works best.
  • Ensure sufficient face size. If the face is too small in the frame (guest standing too far from the camera), the AI may not detect it. Move the camera closer or have the guest step forward.
  • Reduce group size. Face detection works well with small to medium groups. Very large groups where individual faces are small in the frame may result in missed detections.
  • Remove face coverings. Sunglasses, masks, and heavy costume makeup can interfere with face detection.
  • Check camera focus. An out-of-focus face is harder for the AI to detect. Verify that your camera is focusing properly on the subjects.

Tip: For face-dependent features, set up your booth so guests stand at a consistent distance from the camera. Mark the floor with tape to indicate where guests should stand.

Connection or Authentication Errors

Symptoms: Errors mentioning connection failures, authentication problems, API errors, or inability to reach Foto Master Cloud.

Solutions:

  • Check your internet connection. Verify you have a stable connection to the internet.
  • Verify API credentials. Ensure your Cloud API credentials are correctly entered in your booth software settings. Re-enter them if necessary.
  • Check for expired sessions. Log out and log back in to Foto Master Cloud from your booth software.
  • Firewall or network restrictions. Some venue networks block certain ports or domains. Ensure your network allows outbound connections to cloud.fotomaster.com.
  • Try a different network. If venue Wi-Fi is problematic, switch to a mobile hotspot to test whether the issue is network-related.

Reporting AI Quality Issues

If you encounter persistent quality issues with any AI feature that the troubleshooting steps above do not resolve:

  1. Capture the issue. Save the original input photo and the AI-generated output that shows the problem.
  2. Note the details. Record which AI feature, style, processing mode, and prompt (if applicable) were used.
  3. Document your setup. Note your software version, operating system, camera model, and internet connection speed.
  4. Submit a support request through the Foto Master Cloud dashboard or contact support directly. Include the saved photos, settings details, and a description of the issue.
  5. Include comparison examples if possible. If the same feature worked well on some photos but not others, include examples of both to help the support team diagnose the issue.

Tip: The more information you provide in a quality report, the faster the support team can diagnose and resolve the issue. Screenshots, original photos, and configuration details are all valuable.

Checking AI Service Status

To check whether Foto Master Cloud AI services are operating normally:

  1. Visit the Cloud dashboard at cloud.fotomaster.com and look for any service status banners or notifications.
  2. Check the status page if Foto Master provides a dedicated service status page (check your account documentation for the URL).
  3. Run a test operation. Process a simple AI operation (like AI Background Removal, which is fast) to see if the cloud is responding.
  4. Check social channels. Foto Master may post service status updates on their official social media channels during outages or maintenance windows.

If the service appears to be down or degraded, wait for the issue to be resolved before continuing with AI features at your event. Have a non-AI backup workflow ready for situations where cloud services are unavailable.

Tip: Always have a non-AI fallback workflow configured at every event. If internet goes down or cloud services experience issues, you can switch to a standard photo booth workflow and continue operating without interruption.
