Glossary of Foto Master Terms

Updated Yesterday · 5 min read

This glossary covers the key terms and concepts used throughout the Foto Master platform. If you encounter an unfamiliar term in our documentation or in the software itself, you will find its definition here.

Core Concepts

Event

A configured photo booth experience for a specific date and occasion. An event contains all the settings needed to run a booth session, including the assigned preset (workflow + layout), date, duration, and gallery configuration. Events are created and managed in Foto Master Cloud and synced to FMX on the booth device.

💡 Tip: You can reuse event configurations by duplicating an existing event and adjusting the details for a new date or client.

Session

A single guest interaction from start to finish. A session begins when a guest starts the booth experience (e.g., taps the screen) and ends when their final photo is processed and delivered. Each session produces one or more final photos and is logged in the Queue Management system.

Preset

A saved combination of a workflow and a layout. Presets let you package your most-used configurations so you can assign them to new events quickly without rebuilding settings from scratch. For example, you might have a "Wedding Classic" preset with a specific workflow sequence and an elegant layout design.

Workflow

The step-by-step sequence of the booth experience was built using the Workflow Builder. A workflow defines what happens at each stage of a session -- from the welcome screen, to the countdown, to the capture, to the share screen. Workflows can include branching logic, multiple capture modes, and AI processing steps.

For details on building workflows, see Key Concepts: Workflows, Steps, Edges, and Triggers.

Layout

The visual template for the final photo output. A layout defines how captured photos are arranged, sized, and styled in the final image. Layouts can include multiple photo slots, text elements, graphic frames, and branding. They are designed in the cloud platform and synced to FMX.

For details on building photo layouts, see Layout Builder.

Overlay

A graphic layer placed on top of photos during or after capture. Overlays are transparent images (typically PNG files) that add branded frames, decorative borders, event logos, or themed graphics to the final photo. They are applied as part of the layout or as a step in the workflow.

AI and Processing

AI Credits

The currency used to pay for cloud-based AI processing. Each AI operation (such as background replacement, avatar generation, or enhancement) costs a specific number of credits. Credits are purchased separately from your subscription, and per-credit pricing is determined by your plan tier. Higher-tier plans receive greater discounts.

For credit pricing and AI capabilities, see AI Features.

Chroma Key

Green screen or blue screen background replacement. Chroma key is a technique where a solid-colored background (typically green or blue) is digitally removed and replaced with a custom image or video. This can be done locally on the booth or through cloud AI processing.

Final Photo

The processed output image is saved after all effects, overlays, layouts, and AI enhancements have been applied. The final photo is what guests receive via email, SMS, print, or the online gallery. It represents the completed product of a session.

A web page where event photos are shared with guests and clients. Each event can have its own online gallery, accessible via a unique link. Guests can view, download, and share their photos from the gallery. Online galleries are available on the Basic and Pro plans.

💡 Tip: On the Pro plan, you can connect a custom domain to your galleries for a fully branded guest experience

White Label

Removing Foto Master branding and replacing it with your own. White-label functionality is available on the Pro plan and lets you present the entire guest experience -- from the gallery page to email communications -- under your own brand name, logo, and domain.

For white-label configuration, see Foto Master Cloud.

Booth Experience

Selection Screen

The interactive menu guests use to choose their experience when they approach the booth. The selection screen can offer options like different photo modes (single shot, GIF, boomerang, video), filters, AI effects, or themed backgrounds. It is configured as part of the workflow.

Queue Management

The FMX admin interface for reviewing local sessions, managing email and SMS delivery queues, and troubleshooting issues. FMX shows local session and queue status, while Foto Master Cloud shows the cloud activity that has been uploaded or submitted.

Software and Tools

FMX

Foto Master's next-generation booth software for Windows and iPad. FMX runs on your photo booth device and handles the live guest experience, including photo capture, on-screen interactions, effect application, and sharing. FMX connects to Foto Master Cloud to sync events, presets, and assets.

LDP (Lead Distribution Platform)

Foto Master's system for routing incoming rental leads to operators based on the product they own and the geographic area they cover. Operators place "coins" on a map inside Foto Master Cloud to claim coverage areas; when a rental inquiry for a matching product arrives inside one of those areas, LDP assigns the lead to a single eligible operator. Each license with an active LDP coins subscription includes 5 coins, and the license must also have an active 24/7 support plan for those coins to participate in matching -- if either subscription lapses, all 5 coins on the license are Locked until renewal.

For details, see LDP.
