Nikon Camera: SDK Installation and Connection

Updated Today · 1 min read

Overview

FMX for Windows uses the Nikon SDK to communicate with Nikon DSLR cameras. This SDK must be installed before FMX can detect your Nikon camera.

Supported Nikon Cameras

Most Nikon DSLR cameras with USB connectivity and Live View support are compatible. See the FMX Supported Camera List for confirmed models.

Installation Steps

  1. Download the Nikon SDK installer from your Foto Master account, or contact Foto Master support.
  2. Run the installer as administrator. Restart the PC after installation.

Connecting the Camera

  1. Set the Nikon camera to PTP/MTP mode: Menu → Setup Menu → USB → MTP/PTP.
  2. Connect via USB and power on the camera.
  3. Open FMX → Global Settings → Camera Tab → Refresh. Select your Nikon camera.
  4. Click Start Live View to confirm.

Troubleshooting

  • Camera not found: Reinstall the Nikon SDK. Check the USB cable and port.
  • Live View error: Confirm the camera is in MTP/PTP mode. Some Nikon models disable Live View if the battery is below 50% — charge fully before events.
  • Intermittent disconnection: Replace the USB cable. Use a direct port connection, not a USB hub.
