V-Motion 180: Software Setup

Updated 4 days ago · 3 min readBeginner

The V-Motion 180 runs on FMX for iPad — Foto Master's photo booth software for iPadOS. This guide covers everything from installation to running your first test session.

Step 1: Install FMX for iPad

Turn Key package: FMX for iPad is pre-installed on the iPad provided with your booth. Skip to Step 2 — you are ready to log in.

Bring Your Own (BYO): Install FMX from the App Store on your iPad:

  1. Open the App Store on your iPad
  2. Search for FMX by Foto Master or use this link: FMX on the App Store
  3. Tap Get to install

Note: FMX for iPad requires an active FMX for iPad license linked to your Foto Master Cloud account. See License Management Across Devices if you need to activate or move a license.

Step 2: Set Up Your Event in Foto Master Cloud

Before opening FMX, create and configure your event in Foto Master Cloud. FMX pulls everything — workflow, video output template, and sharing settings — from the Cloud.

  1. Log in at cloud.fotomaster.com
  2. Go to Events → New Event and fill in the event name, date, and duration
  3. Assign a Preset to the event — click Load Preset and browse the library for V-Motion 180 presets. These come pre-configured with the correct video format, timing, transitions, and video output templates so you can go live immediately
  4. Configure sharing settings: email, SMS, and online gallery (the V-Motion 180 delivers video, not prints — no print step is needed)
  5. Save the event

Tip: See Creating a Cloud Event for the full walkthrough. For a custom experience, use the Workflow Builder and Video Builder to design your own workflow and video output template.

Step 3: Log In to FMX on the iPad

  1. Open FMX on the iPad
  2. Tap Sign In and enter your Foto Master Cloud email and password
  3. Your FMX for iPad license activates automatically

Note: If you see a license error, verify your subscription is active at cloud.fotomaster.com → Account → Licenses.

Step 4: Select, Sync, and Play

FMX connects to your Cloud event in three steps:

Select — Tap Load Event. Your list of Cloud events loads automatically. Select the event you configured.

Sync — Tap Sync. FMX downloads the full event package: workflow, video output template, all assets, and sharing settings. Video templates can be large — wait for the sync to complete on a strong Wi-Fi connection before going live.

Play — Tap Play to enter Experience View. The booth is now live.

Tip: Always sync before going live, even if you synced earlier. See Select, Sync, Play for a full explanation of how syncing works.

Step 5: Configure Device Settings

Before going live, review the key settings in Global Settings (the gear icon):

Camera

Confirm FMX detects the iPad camera. Tap Preview to check framing — the camera should capture the full guest standing in the arm's sweep path. Adjust the position or angle so guests are centered when the arm begins its rotation.

Cloud

Confirm the Cloud connection shows as active. The V-Motion 180 uploads video files after each session — a stable internet connection is essential, as video files are significantly larger than photos.

Tip: See FMX for iPad — Full Documentation for all settings and features.

Step 6: Run a Test Session

  1. Tap Play to enter Experience View
  2. Run a full test without a guest first — confirm the arm completes its 180-degree sweep without obstruction and the video is captured
  3. Run a second test with a stand-in person to confirm framing, lighting, and video quality
  4. Check the video output: confirm the correct template is applied, the duration and transitions match your expectations, and the output format is correct for the sharing method (SMS, email, gallery)
  5. Confirm the video appears in your event's online gallery in Foto Master Cloud

Important: Always run the arm sweep test with the space completely clear before guests arrive. The arm needs a minimum 3m × 3m floor space with 2.5m ceiling clearance.
