Selfie Wi-Fi: Moderation Guide

Updated 5 days ago · 3 min readIntermediate

Content moderation in Selfie Wi-Fi lets you review and approve guest photos before they appear in galleries, on slideshow displays, or in print. This is essential for public-facing installations where you cannot control what guests upload.

When to Use Moderation

Enable moderation for:

  • Public venues (malls, museums, entertainment centers)
  • Unattended installations
  • Brand-sensitive corporate events
  • Events with children
  • Any situation where inappropriate uploads could be a concern

Disable moderation for:

  • Private events with trusted guests (weddings, team events)
  • Attended events where an operator is present
  • High-volume events where review would create a bottleneck

Enabling Moderation

  1. Open your event in the Cloud dashboard
  2. Go to the Selfie-Wifi tab
  3. Toggle Moderation to on
  4. Save your settings

When enabled, all uploaded photos start in a "pending" state and do not appear in galleries or trigger prints until approved.

Using the Moderation Dashboard

Accessing the Panel

  1. In the Cloud dashboard, open your event
  2. Navigate to the Selfie-Wifi tab
  3. Click on the Moderation section

Views

  • Grid view -- Thumbnail grid for quick visual scanning of pending photos
  • List view -- Detailed list with metadata (upload time, AI service used, status)

Actions

For each photo, you can:

  • Approve -- Mark the photo as approved. It will appear in the gallery and trigger auto-print if enabled.
  • Reject -- Permanently remove the photo. It will not appear anywhere.
  • Reprint -- Queue an approved photo for reprinting at the Selfie Wi-Fi station.

Bulk Actions

Select multiple photos and apply actions in batch:

  1. Select photos using checkboxes
  2. Choose an action (Approve All, Reject All, Reprint Selected)
  3. Confirm the action

Tip: During busy events, check the moderation dashboard every 2-3 minutes. Guests who upload a photo and then check the slideshow expect to see their result quickly.

Photo States

Each photo has several state flags:

StateDescription
PendingUploaded but not yet reviewed (moderation enabled)
ApprovedCleared for display, gallery, and printing
RejectedRemoved, will not appear anywhere
Auto-PrintWill print automatically on approval (if auto-print enabled)
DisplayWill appear in the online gallery (if display enabled)

Auto-Print with Moderation

When both moderation and auto-print are enabled:

  1. Guest uploads a photo
  2. Photo enters "pending" state -- no print yet
  3. Admin approves the photo in the moderation dashboard
  4. Selfie Wi-Fi detects the newly approved photo on its next poll (every 30 seconds)
  5. Photo downloads and prints automatically

This ensures only approved content reaches the printer.

How the Companion App Handles Moderation

The Selfie Wi-Fi companion app (the venue PC/Mac slideshow + print app) respects moderation settings:

  • Only downloads photos where approved = true
  • Only displays approved photos in the slideshow
  • Only auto-prints approved photos
  • Monitors for reprint requests from the Cloud dashboard

Enable Moderation in the companion app's settings to match your Cloud configuration.

Best Practices

  • Assign a dedicated moderator at high-volume events to keep the queue moving
  • Use a tablet or laptop for moderation -- the Cloud dashboard is mobile-friendly
  • Set expectations with guests -- If using moderation, display a message like "Your photo will appear on screen shortly after review"
  • Pre-approve test photos during setup to verify the pipeline works end-to-end
  • Use grid view for fast visual scanning of large queues
