AI Features at Events: What to Expect
AI Feature Processing Time
AI feature processing from a photo booth is divided into three main steps:
- Photo upload to the Cloud -- The photo is uploaded from the photo booth to Foto Master Cloud. This step depends on your internet connection.
- AI processing in Foto Master Cloud -- The AI service processes the photo on Foto Master’s Cloud servers. This step does not depend on your booth’s internet speed, but processing time can vary by AI service and server load.
- Result download to the photo booth -- The completed AI result is downloaded back to the photo booth. This step also depends on your internet connection.
Processing time varies by feature, AI model, image complexity, and server load. Below are typical processing ranges:
Typical Processing Time Ranges
Fast: 5–15 seconds
Examples:
- Background Removal
- AI Modify / AI Combine using Grok
- AI Modify / AI Combine using Nano Banana
- Face Swap
Moderate: 15–40 seconds
Examples:
- AI Modify / AI Combine using Nano Banana 2
- AI Modify / AI Combine using GPT 1.5
- Style Pop
- AI Headshot Single
- Line2Life
- AI Image to Video using Seedance
Longer: 30–60 seconds
Examples:
- AI Modify / AI Combine with Enhance
- AI Modify / AI Combine with GPT 2
- Headshots Elite
- AI Image to Video services
There are many AI services available, and new services may be added over time. To test the speed and quality of any AI feature, we highly recommend using the AI Playground inside Foto Master Cloud. You can select any service, run a test, and decide which service best fits your event workflow.
These are typical ranges only. Server load during peak hours may extend processing time. For complex AI features, plan your workflow around the expected processing window and do not expect instant results.
Making the Wait Feel Shorter
Because you control the workflow, you can create fun and engaging experiences while the AI result is processing.
For example, you can:
- Let guests play a game while they wait, such as Tic Tac Toe, 3 Shells, or Pie.
- Allow sharing before preview, depending on your event setup.
- Show interactive preloader animations.
- Ask guests to follow an animation, such as dancing while the result is being prepared.
- Use funny or branded preloaders to keep guests entertained.
A well-designed waiting experience can make the AI processing time feel intentional and enjoyable instead of slow.
Controlling When the Workflow Moves Forward
You can control exactly when your workflow continues after an AI feature is completed by using the AI Processing trigger on an animation edge. This allows the workflow to stay on the processing or waiting animation until the AI result has been fully processed, downloaded back to the photo booth, and is ready for preview or for the next step in the workflow.
This is important because AI processing time can vary. Instead of using a fixed timer and guessing how long the AI service will take, the AI Processing trigger lets the workflow move forward only when the result is actually ready.
For example, you can:
- Show an AI processing animation while the result is being created.
- Keep guests entertained with a branded or interactive waiting screen.
- Move automatically to the preview screen once the AI result is ready.
- Avoid moving forward too early before the final AI result has downloaded.
This creates a smoother experience and prevents guests from reaching the preview step before the AI output is available.
What Can Go Wrong
- Poor input photo: This is the most common cause of bad AI output. Make sure the guest’s face is clearly visible, properly lit, and not blocked by hair, hands, props, sunglasses, or other objects. If results look poor during the first few sessions, retest your camera settings, lighting, and focus before continuing the event.
- AI credits run out: If your AI credits run out, sessions will fail to complete AI processing. Monitor your credit balance during long or busy events. You can add credits from: Cloud → Account → Credits. Credits are added immediately after purchase.
- Slow internet: AI processing requires a full round-trip between the photo booth and Foto Master Cloud. Slow or unstable Wi-Fi can add time to every session. For best results, use a reliable dedicated mobile hotspot or wired internet connection when venue Wi-Fi is unstable.
- AI fails to generate: In some cases, the AI service may fail to generate a result. Common reasons include:
- No face detected in the photo
- Content policy violation
- Poor image quality
- Temporary processing error
- Poor Prompt
You can configure retry behavior and decide where the workflow should go in these cases using the AI Error edge in the Workflow Builder.
Lighting & Focus Requirements for Best AI Results
It is easy to forget to focus the camera when working with AI because some AI results may still look acceptable even when the source photo is not perfect. However, a guest's resemblance depends heavily on a properly focused photo.
For best results:
- Make sure the camera is focused before starting the event.
- Use even, diffused lighting.
- Avoid harsh shadows across the face.
- Use the LED Ring when possible, as it provides front-facing fill light that works well for AI processing.
- Avoid mixed lighting temperatures, such as warm spotlights combined with cool daylight.
- Avoid backlighting. A guest standing in front of a bright window may appear as a silhouette and produce poor AI results.
Good lighting and sharp focus are especially important for services that depend on facial resemblance, such as Face Swap, AI Headshots, Headshots Elite, and similar AI features.
AI Results Are Probabilistic
AI-generated results are not always identical. Even if you use the same input photo more than once, the output may be slightly different each time. This is normal.
If a guest receives a result they do not like, you can offer to retake the photo and regenerate the result. Keep in mind that regenerating or retaking the session may use additional AI credits.
